I have been with Top Notch since 2000, and the name says it all. The staff, technicians, service and products are truly Top Notch. My HVAC system has performed faithfully during the seasons due to the level of expertise of the company and their commitment to customer service.

I have used Top Notch for several years. I have two furnaces and air conditioners and they work very hard. With Top Notch looking after these systems I feel totally confident they will run well. Everyone, from the ladies who answer when I call, to the service men are friendly, know their business and my systems, and take great care of everything. Highly recommend them to anyone.

We have used Top Notch over the past ten years. They do not put you on long waiting lists and are quick to fix your problem. The technicians are courteous and professional. We will continue to use them.

We recently switched our HVAC services to Top Notch and could not be happier! Our technician was extremely courteous, took pride in his work, and provided honest feedback. We are glad we made the switch and you will be too.

Top Notch offers a great service. We are VIP members, which provides great benefits like reduced pricing on parts, yearly maintenance on heating/air units and no waiting if you have a problem. They offer peace of mind. The technicians are always very friendly and professional. We have been customers of Top Notch since we have owned our home. I would recommend them to our friends and family.

Top Notch provided my annual ac tune-up and maintenance. It was easy to schedule an appointment and the service tech was on time. He checked both our systems and everything checked out fine. He explained my air filter looked ok but suggested I have it changed in the Fall. Overall I couldn’t be happier with their service.

We have used Top Notch for years now, and have remained happy with their service. The servicemen are not only professional, but personable as well. They arrive on time, take the time to explain their work and are happy to answer any questions I may have. Our serviceman even took the initiative to show me how to better distribute the AC throughout all levels of the house (I didn’t even have to ask!). We would definitely recommend them!

Top Notch technicians are always professional and friendly. They stay true to the scheduled time and I have never had to wait. They always call to let me know when they will arrive. The reminder postcards are important to me as I do not keep track of when I need service. Being a loyal member came in handy when a lightning strike took out our air conditioner and within three hours our AC was fixed. During our heater check-up, the tech checked for any carbon dioxide leakage. Thank you.

5. You want to Legally Protect Yourself:

6. Your Spouse Owes the Government Money: If your spouse hasn’t paid his/her student loans, have unpaid government loans or overdue tax returns, then the government may hold onto your tax refund if filing jointly.

6. Your Spouse Owes the Government Money:

7. You’re Getting a Divorce (or plan to): If you’re going through a nasty divorce, then it’s best to go your own route, even if it means you may end up paying more in taxes. Some divorce proceedings can involve splitting tax refunds, and filing jointly means you’ll have to meet up to sign the paperwork. You can avoid the drama by filing separately.

7. You’re Getting a Divorce (or plan to):

8. You Want to File As Head of Household: If you and your spouse didn’t live together for the last six months of the year, and you maintained a home for your child for more than half the year, you may be able to claim the Head of Household filing status. This status means your standard deduction will be higher and you’ll be able to claim certain credits you otherwise wouldn’t be able to if filing jointly.

8. You Want to File As Head of Household:

If you find yourself within one of the eight categories above, you may want to reconsider filing jointly. Married Filing Separately is definitely the less common filing status among couples but there’s obvious reasons why it could end up being the smarter option.

Sharing is caring. However, certain things are better left unshared, like toothbrushes and sometimes even tax returns!

If you’re unsure how to file, you can compare the two. First, create an account on RapidTax and prepare your return with the married filing separately status. Then, you (or your spouse) can create a separate RapidTax account and prepare a joint return. Before paying, you’ll be able to view what your federal refund or tax due will be for each filing status. Then, you’ll simply complete the tax return with the better result!

I recently got married and wanted to know whether to file jointly or separately. We still have separate bank accounts and my driver’s license still shows my old address because I haven’t had time to change it yet. My husband inherited some money BEFORE we were married, which definitely bumped him into the next tax bracket, will I be penalized for that now that we’re married and if so should I file as married filing separately then? Please advise. Thanks for your help!
